Herpes is a disease caused by a virus. This is an inflammatory disease that manifests as a rash of small fluid-filled blisters on the skin and mucous membranes. The causative agent of the disease is the herpes simplex virus (Latin Herpes simplex or HSV), which is present in 90% of the world's population, but only 5% of them develop herpes and develop symptoms.
